Memorial Lines
The Addison Act Centenary Sculpture
This work commemorates The Addison Act Centenary and the Durham and Gloucester House Community (South Kilburn Estate). The blocks from the workbenches collected from the construction site during the centenary year in 2019 bear the cuts of construction for these new homes and look forward to another 100 years of social housing.
Negative prints (Constellation I) taken from the carpenter’s work benches explore the now untraceable connections of time and place in construction. Cut lines become traces – imaginary threads connecting the old and new community.
Contrasting to the cuts of construction are the marks of destruction on the dust sheet (Constellation II).
The Durham and Gloucester site was renamed Unity Place and the entire site is devoted to social housing with 235 new homes.
2017-2021 I was artist in residence for Brent Council documenting the regeneration on the demolition and construction sites.
